"Well, here we have it, the latest bunch of Eddie Van Halen/Joe Satriani wannabees. Nah, just kidding! The five guitarists featured on this album (Wayne Edwards, Chris Hattingh, Jim Reindel, Mark Schuster, and Adam Puchalski) are in fact all very good players, who crank out some jamming tunes here. The album is all instrumental save for one song, "Eye To Eye" by Wayne Edwards. If I had to pick a favorite song from this album, this would be it. It's the most "metal" tune on the disc, very influenced by Iron Maiden and Queensryche. It even sounds a little bit like Maiden's "Stranger In A Strange Land", and Wayne's singing is very influenced by Geoff Tate. Wayne plays a mean solo on it, too! Wayne also contributes one other song to "G5", the untitled closing track, in which he shows off his guitar skills live. As for the rest of the album, it's a guitar bonanza all the way, with lots of nimble-fingered playing and fret board scorching! Mark Schuster's "Alter Ego" and "Days Like These" really pack a punch; Chris Hattingh's  "Remorse Code" (clever title!) and Adam Puchalski's "El Toro" are bouncy little numbers. Adam's style is also a little different from your average "guitar hero." His song "Groundhog Day" has a funky vibe to it, while his third contribution, "No News Is Good News", is a little mellower. Some of the songs even poke fun at famous guitar heroes. Another one of Chris's songs is called "I Am Not A Viking", quite obviously a parody of Yngwie Malmsteen's classic "I Am A Viking". The actual song, however, is more Satriani than Malmsteen, and Chris's other song is called "Not For Teachers". No prizes for guessing what inspired this one! It even sounds like "Hot For Teacher!" Jim Reindel's contributions to "G5" are "Avalanche" and "Triangular Meltdown", both hard rocking guitar jams, very influenced by Satriani and Vai, on which Jim flies across his fret board! I found this compilation to be a very enjoyable showcase of some talented guitarists, although I wish there was more singing. Aside from that, these five axe slingers can certainly jam with the best of them! Keep rocking, G5!" - Jonathan Mariante, BallBusterHard

"G5 is the combining of 5 great guitarists into a force that is G5 Summit. Their first release is titled “G5 Summit” and contains 15 bone crunching guitar driven songs. The brainchild of G5 is Wayne Edwards. Besides him the other featured guitarists are Chris Hattingh, Adam Puchalski, Jim Reindel and Mark B. Schuster. They all play guitar since many years and have been influenced by many guitar heroes from the past and present. One song from Wayne Edwards from his album “Eye to Eye” is with vocals, the other 14 tracks are rock/metal/fusion instrumentals. All 5 are technical wellskilled and have composed songs with many variety. Right now G5 Summit is looking for a record label that rocks as hard as G5 Summit does!" - Ronnie Elst, Metal Coven

"G5 is the combining of 5 guitarists into a force that is G5 SUMMIT. The first release is titled 'G5 summit' and contains 15 songs and a couple guitarists we already have featured in Strutter'zine, such as Wayne Edwards and Mark B. Schuster. These guitarists can really play some great music and that can also be heard on this compilation CD for which they provided each 3 of their songs. The other 3 guitarists are Jim Reindel, Adam Puchalski and Chris Hattingh who all can also play their guitar very well. Fans of instrumental (there are also some vocal tracks on the CD) guitar hard rock a la JASON BECKER, MICHAEL SCHENKER, MALMSTEEN, JOE SATRIANI, STEVE VAI etc. really need to check out this compilation of 5 guitarists from the new generation of guitarplayers."

"This compilation CD shows that there’s a lot of talented guitarists wandering around in the USA. 5 different guitarists from all over the USA recorded several songs for this CD, on which we can find in total 17 tracks. Most of the songs are instrumental, except for the fantastic midtempo Progressive Melodic Rocker “Eye to eye”by WAYNE EDWARDS that reminds me of 80s QUEENSRYCHE/CRIMSON GLORY. Further this is a great compilation featuring awesome instrumental Hardrock, Melodic Rock, Progressive Rock/Metal and Melodic Metal. The other guitarists are CHRIS HATTINGH, ADAM PUCHALSKI, MARK SCHUSTER and JIM REINDEL who all deliver great instrumental tunes. Guitarfreaks should check out this CD a.s.a.p." - Gabor Kleinbloesem, Strutter'Zine

"I talked about the Wayne Edwards guitar project G5 back in Fireworks magazine a couple of years ago and it's good to see Wayne finally getting the album out on Fossil Records. If your a guitar fan then you will enjoy G5, as Wayne has mustered a variety of top notch guitar slingers from the underground including the amazing Chris Hattingh, Mark Schuster, Adam Puchalski, Jim Reindel and Wayne himself and they all make up G5.

'Combo Audio' sees everyone jamming together in this infectious racing piece which is like Joe Satriani, whilst 'M' is a furious guitar rock out from Wayne himself. Next is 'Triangular Meltdown' performed by Reindel, this song is quite delicious and makes me
think of players like Tony MaCalpine and Shawn Lane.  'El Toro' perfomed by Adam Puchalski provide us with plenty of speedy virtuosity and 'I'm Not A Viking' performed by the amazing Chris Hattingh is a fantastic neo-classical work out that reminds me of the likes of Patrick Rondat, Joey Tafolla and Marty Friedman with it's dream like exotic shredding.

Mark Schuster provides us with the excellent 'Alter Ego'  which veers off into Edward Van Halen and Jeff Watson territory whilst Wayne churns out 'Eye To Eye' a vocal led track which is quite strong and melodic, the artificial drums spoil this track which is very
much like Queensryche and with a better production would sound even more awesome, a good song proving that Wayne is also a very talented singer as he is guitar player.

'Mood Swing' by Jim Reindel pops up next and is a more experimental fusion style track, like Eric Johnson meets an instrumental Dream Theater watching the film Flash Gordon. Adam Puchalski provides us with a fun Steve Vai influenced track called 'Ground Hog Day' which certainly shows the guitars whizzing around faster than a washing machine on fast spin program. Next is the humorous Van Halen fun of the ammusignly titled 'Not For Teacher' performed by Chris Hattingh. I really enjoyed this track, the song is based of
course on 'Hot For Teacher', thankfully though Chris adds his own voracious hail of licks into the mix and this is a very very cool track.

Schuster pops up again for 'Ridin' The Slipstream' that has similar riffs to the material heard on Judas Priest's "British Steel", it's heavy and breezes along showcasing also some Michael Lee Firkins influences. Wayne's next track is 'Struggles And Success' and it is a good guitar piece with Paul Gilbert style guitar licks, this is a good song that concentrates on feeling rather than speed thus it comes over very melodic. I remember saying when I heard some of Wayne's vocal led material which was in the melodic vein that he would make a very good Bad English style album, which I still hope he will do one day, melodies like this would sound awesome in songs of that nature.

Jim Reindel gets another chance to showcase with the frantic 'Avalanche', this totally shred and reminds me of Yngwie Malmsteen and Racer X. Adam Puchalski's 'No News Is Good News' is jazz fusion and an interesting piece for fans of the late Shawn Lane to enjoy.  Hattingh delivers another top notch fun rocker called 'Remorse Code' which is like Gary Hoey and Dick Dale and is just brilliant, I really like Hattingh he has an album out as well that is worth checking out.  'Schuster performs the high speed attack of 'Days Like These' and lastly everyone unites together for 'G Force Blues' a song that shows some very cool playing from all the cast.

G5 is an album that showcases the fine styles of these five players. The album suffers sometimes from sound quality but by and large this is essential for guitar fans, who said the guitar hero was dead !!!" - Nicky Baldrian, AOR Dream Zones
